Mainland

A Simple Text Adventure Game

Developer: Vasily Voronkov, Ryan Joseph, Peter Kosyh
Publisher: Instead Community

Released on May 8, 2015

Mainland is an interactive text storybook adventure set in the 19th century. After a closer look, I’m more convinced that it is not actually a game but rather a fictional novel where you type commands into the text box to generate a specific action.

You control an explorer who was shipwrecked on an unknown island, being the sole survivor of a plague that killed both the captain and crew. The narrative is told in 1st person from his perspective as you progress through the entries written in his diary.

Genre: Free-to-play Indie Game

Released on Apr 3, 2017

Domina is akin to the “new kid on the block” in the rogue-like genre of games (marked by dungeon crawling, tile-based graphics, and permadeath.) With a setting in the heyday of gladiator combat, the game brings a few new things to the table both in terms of social live streaming and glorious AI vs. AI gladiator combat.

Genre: An action-strategy simulation game.

In this one, you will be distributing chocolate confections all across the world to seek out new ingredients and recipes.

Genre: Business Simulation

The Steam Workshop

Modding on Steam Workshop

by Paul Gestl

Variety is the spice of life.

A powerful saying in both life and video games. No game is perfect and able to keep a person entertained all by itself. Even my favorite game only has around 100 hours clocked in on it, only counting the Steam version.

Luckily, Steam has an easy fix for making sure that their games don’t become stale as quickly with its own section dedicated to content mods called the steam workshop.
